Favorite Fictional Monarch
I realized I haven't read about a lot of fictional monarchs who actually have a lot of agency to be memorable. Most of them really are busily being protected by the heroes/heroines or tend to really be walk-on figureheads.
My favorite fictional account of a Monarch is Heyer's account of William the Conqueror in her book:
But that doesn't quite fit the category, really.
So in the end I went with Brandin of Ygrath from Tigana - Guy Gavriel Kay . He leaps off the page, He's not a Nice Person. In fact he can be considered somewhat genocidal. But he's fuck-all fascinating!
