Genre fiction lover: Romance, Sci Fi, Fantasy, Mystery, Urban Fantasy
Normally I run like my hair is on fire, far away from anything that is a retelling of or homage to or re-imagined Jane Austen fiction. But as far as that goes, this wasn't bad. It was clearly little bits and pieces of Austen fic & characters with the requisite drawing room romance and plot. The thing that makes this a little different is the addition of magic.
In this society, people -- young women especially -- use Glamour to enhance the beauty of their surroundings, create a mood, or even just scent the air with a hint if jasmine. I liked the concept of the magic system and thought the author did a good job of incorporating it into the more familiar romance plot.
Overall this was a fun little story and I actually enjoyed it more as it went on. May just look up the rest of he series...
