I had the hardest time getting into this book and would have given up entirely if I hadn't had a few friends urging me to finish because the series gets better and I would hate it if I missed out on a great series because the first book was a little draggy.
So I persevered. I am glad I did because the book ended a lot better than it began and I am already reading and enjoying the second book more right from the start.
As i read through other GR reviews, I find that a lot of other 3-star reviews have the same likes/dislikes/issues with this first book I did. Namely, I had a hard time really investing in Mac and her 'voice'. I also had a bit of problem with the author's need to describe everybody's clothing in such detail. i ketp getting *shudder* Anita Blake flashbacks *shudder*. I also didn't, well, like anyone that much. That changed over the course of the book as I got a bit more invested in the main characters, Barrons especially.
So I am glad i did soldier through.
