Magic Bites - Ilona Andrews

Started out a tick slow but kicked into gear about 1/3 of the way through and never looked back.  Completely loved it.

I especially love the world-building  -- the magic v. tech waves and the futuristic, almost post apocalyptic, dystopian feel of the time.  And since in the paranormal universe I am more partial to shapeshifters than vampires, I like her treatment of vampires.  Nothing sexy or seductive about them.  They are monsters pure and simple. Whereas Curran -- hubba hubba

There are also bits nice understated humor.  And I had to keep giggling to myself because I kept picturing, well, the singer Bono whenever the character Bono was 'on scene'.

Took a star off because of the very 'first book' feel and the too common Kick Ass Loner chick trope.  But I can live with Kick Ass loner chick Kate when the story is this good

Highly recommend!
